FBTX ~ The North Texas Emergency Communications Center has implemented a new program, designed to provide the most accurate response possible to calls for emergency service, based on the specifics of the situation.

Farmers Branch Fire Chief Steve Parker said the system allows the dispatcher to follow a standardized methodology in processing a fire call, allowing them to send the correct number and type of apparatus to a call for service.

"Up til now, we have used a ’one size fits all’ dispatching process, a system that has been in place since the turn of the last century when citizens used a pull box to summon the Fire Department," Chief Parker explained. "The EFD system will send the correct response package to the call, leaving other units in-service for the next call, reducing the overall response time and increasing our service level."
