Fire Code, Inspections and Permits

PERMIT APPLICATION AND PLAN SUBMITTAL PROCESS

Walk-In plan review is no longer available.

Fire Protection Systems Permits are required required if:
  • Adding/relocating 10 or more fire sprinkler heads
  • Adding any single initiating device
  • Adding or relocating 5 or more notification devices
If a permit is NOT required:
  • Submit a scope of work letter prior to the work
  • Submit a work completion letter when the project is finished 
Fire Protection Systems Acceptance testing is required for:
  • All permitted fire alarm work 
  • All permitted sprinkler work
    • Visual inspection required on ALL permitted sprinkler work
    • Hydrostatic test required with 20 or greater "adds" or "relocates"

2018 INTERNATIONAL FIRE CODE AMMENDMENTS


The City of Farmers Branch has adopted the 2018 edition of the International Fire Code, which regulates and governs the safeguarding of life and property from fire and explosion hazards arising from the storage, handling and use of hazardous substances, materials and devices, and from conditions hazardous to life or property in the occupancy of buildings and premises. 

Ordinance 3607
 of the City of Farmers Branch, Texas, amends the code of ordinances by amending Chapter 38 titled "Fire Prevention and Protection."  For a complete list of City Ordinances go to Municode.
