Independence Day Celebration

Family Star Party

  • Bring your own picnic and enjoy the sunset. 
  • Once the sun goes down the star viewing begins. Members of the Texas Astronomical Society of Dallas will provide a variety of telescopes available for viewing deep sky objects. In addition, participants are encouraged to bring their own telescopes.

  • Bring your own kite and enjoy a summer afternoon soaring in the Historical Park's meadow. Participating families will receive a small gift from the Park.

Pickups-N-Panels of North Texas Car-Truck Shootout

  • Free for spectators; entry fee is $30 per vehicle
  • The beautiful Farmers Branch Historical Park is a picturesque backdrop for the PnP Car-Truck Shootout. The Park’s grassy area and beautiful trees provide the perfect venue for vehicle enthusiasts to relax and trade stories. The day will include great food and lots of fun for the entrants and spectators alike; including tamales, hamburgers and hot dogs, a bounce house for the younger attendees and snow cones and ice cream for the young and young-at-heart.

Looking inside the Doctor’s Bag:  Leeches, Bullet Extractors and More!

  • Dr. Samuel Gilbert lived in Farmers Branch for nearly 30 years, and served as the primary doctor for this area.  But what kind of medicine did he practice?  Come to the Historical Park’s Gilbert House to explore his tools and tricks.  Everything from leeches and bloodletting, to amputations and home-made medicines.  The Doctor’s wife, Julia Gilbert, will be on hand to show visitors what life was like in the 1800s and how her husband treated some of the most gruesome diseases and injuries of the day!
