The K-9 Unit is an arm of the Patrol Division, designed to provide assistance to all other Field Operations Units such as Patrol, Narcotics, SWAT and Investigations. This unit also functions to prohibit drug traffic and arrest drug traffickers. In their Patrol function, they assist in the arrest and apprehension of criminal suspects, along with tracking missing persons, locating evidence, and finding lost property.
The public service aspect of the K-9 Unit involves educating children about the dangers of drugs. This responsibility is carried out in programs given at local schools, crime watch meetings and neighborhood block parties.
